Oakhurst & Daughter

A shop that breaks even in month five

An independent grocer with four shops wanted a fifth. We built a simple model of what a new shop must sell to pay its way, and opened it on that plan.

The brief

Hattie Oakhurst had run four shops on instinct. A fifth was a bigger bet, and she wanted to know what it would take to pay its way.

What we did

We modelled the four existing shops, found what a good week looked like, and set the same targets for the new one.

What changed

The fifth shop opened with a weekly target on the wall and a plan for the quiet months.

Where it stands

The new shop reached break-even in its fifth month, and the model is now used to check every new lease.

“

We knew the number we had to hit each week. That made every decision smaller and easier.
